Do not use double spaces after full stops. You can use the; Find and Replace’ to remove them. You may have been taught to use it in school, but in an eBook, that makes bad text and it looks unprofessional, and of course, professional typographers are not in use. If you are a heavy-handed typist, you may also want to check if there are some other spaces. Accidental triples are aware of the existence!

Hyphens and line breaks:

Disable hyphenation and be sure not to force line breaks. If you add a script manually, there is a danger that the final result will be caught in the middle of a random line that looks like a mistake. Similarly, do not try to correct the widows and orphans.

Number of pages:

Some eBook files do not have page numbers. Some devices assigned page numbers depending on the configuration of the reader. Reading devices usually tell the reader how advanced she is in the book/E. Gram. ;Page X of Y’ or ‘43 percent complete.’ This also means that the page numbers in the table of contents will be irrelevant.


Decide whether you are going to use block or management on paragraphs and follow the same format everywhere. Block paragraphs have a line space between them; whereas paragraphs management has no line space between them, but have indent the first line in place. If you use run-on paragraphs, remember not to indent the first paragraph of each chapter. And do not use the tab key to indent paragraphs; use the ‘first line indent’ Word on the tape function.


When you want to start a new chapter, insert a page break. Do not just keep pressing the Enter key until a new page! Use the ‘Show unprintable characters’ to help you get rid of extra line breaks at the end of each chapter.

Out of the Ordinary:

If you want to use ‘fantasy’ format, such as headers, footers, borders, special fonts, text color, multi-column layouts, etc., you may need to consider opting for a fixed-layout electronic book instead of a resettable EPUB. Certain decorative elements such as drop caps can be inserted as images, but if there are a lot of them, it better off you get some professional help with the conversion to make sure you get the result you are looking for.  You can include images in EPUB and MOBI doubt files, but some electronic readers will show grayscale. EBooks often include photos, pictures, graphs and other illustrations. However, it is important to note that because illustrations contribute to a larger file size, some e-book publishers only accept text submissions. Meanwhile, there is more than one way to add illustrations to your eBook, but one method is to use a scanner and then convert the pictures to .gif or .jpg files. Then you can format the photos as you like using software such as Photoshop or GIMP. You cannot really add illustrations directly into Word (you can, but it’s a nuisance) so if you plan to create an E-Book with lots of pictures, it is a better idea to use a desktop publishing program. Always leave a sufficient margin between the illustration and text, and add captions when necessary. 

Preliminary information:

Preliminary contents include: cover a copyright page; acknowledgments, and a table of contents. To implement the copyright page, take a look at the page of a copyright book printing and use the same formatting and information, using your own name and book title, of course. Shelve unnecessary items such as the Library of Congress information. The only time you will need an ISBN is if you are going to sell electronic copies of the book on disk at a later date. The table of contents is easy – Word automatically generates a table of contents.
